“I’m a single parent with two kids.
I’ve seen the media and seen the stories.
But I can’t help but wonder, How can we talk to each other about the issues we face?
What does it mean to be a single mother?” said Jennifer, a single mom who is married and has two children with her husband, a professional wrestler.
“It seems like I’m the only single mom on TV.
I wonder if I’m missing out.”
In the first episode of the new series, titled Mommycast, host Lizzie Johnson talks with people who have shared their stories of dealing with the growing gender gap in the workplace, and what they’ve learned about the impact of being single and a mom on their families.
“I’ve seen so many stories of moms with kids who have no one else to talk to.
I want to hear from the mom of a baby who has a birth certificate and has no friends, no job, no family,” said one mom, who requested anonymity.
In addition to sharing her personal stories, the mom also shared her thoughts on the issue of gender in the workforce.
“What I find really disturbing is the lack of visibility for women in the field,” said Jennifer.
“And it’s really hard to find those women.”
“I think there’s an undercurrent of discrimination that is happening in the business world.
We are being discriminated against because of our gender,” she added.
“This is a woman-only field and women-only environments, and it’s not right.”
Some moms also share their struggles with parenting and the work that it takes to raise their children, but the show explores how to talk and communicate with each other when those issues come up.
“Some of my friends are super busy, so it can be difficult to connect,” said another mom, a nurse who lives in North Carolina.
“But there’s so much more to talk through about our family, and how to be there for each other, how to connect with each child and make sure they have a great experience.”
“Sometimes it’s hard to hear what other moms are saying,” said Johnson.
“They might not have the same vocabulary.
Sometimes we’re just not hearing our own voices.”
The series will air on MTV from Sept. 25 to Oct. 3, and will feature interviews with some of the mothers featured in the show.
The show, which will also include interviews with women in technology, film and the arts, will air in more than 100 markets across the country.
